IndyCar driver Justin Wilson died on Monday night after being seriously injured when a piece of debris broke off another car and struck him in the head at Pocono Raceway on Sunday. Wilson was only 37 years old and is survived by his wife Julia and two young daughters, Jane and Jessica.
Overnight, a memorial in Wilson's honor sprouted up at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Wilson's death is the first within the IndyCar community since Dan Wheldon died in a fiery accident in 2011. Wheldon's widow Holly was among the first auto racing members to tweet and reflect on Wilson's death.
Close friend A.J. Allmendinger shared photos and memories with his followers, and reminded well-wishers that Wilson's family needs all the help and support they can get.
Wilson's brother, IndyCar driver Stefan Wilson, focused his message on his older brother's wife and children, as well.

IndyCar driver Tony Kanaan offered a sobering look at Wilson's death. While the dangers in auto racing remain inherent to the sport despite modern safety measures, it's nothing that can dissuade drivers from following their passion.
