Kaine, Bayh Ruled Out As Obama VP Pick

***UPDATE*** 11:25pm ABC News reports that the U.S. Secret Service dispatched a security detail to Biden's home Friday night:

The United States Secret Service has dispatched a protective detail to assume the immediate protection of Sen. Joseph Biden, D-Del., a source tells ABC News, indicating in all likelihood that Biden has been officially notified that Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, has selected him to be his running mate.

Sources also tell ABC News that two others said to be finalists for the position of Obama's running mate -- Sen. Evan Bayh, D-Ind., and Virginia Gov Tim Kaine -- have been told they have not been selected to be Obama's running mate.

The LA Times, NBC, and New York Times all report that Kaine and Bayh have been ruled out as the VP pick.

***UPDATE*** 10:40pm CNN says they can confirm that Evan Bayh is out of the running for Obama's vice presidential pick.

NBC News is reporting that Evan Bayh and Tim Kaine have been told by Obama that they will not be his vice presidential nominee:

Indiana Sen. Evan Bayh and Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine have been told by Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's campaign they will not be his vice presidential choice, NBC News reported on Friday quoting sources.

Fox News recently reported on air that Kaine had been called by the Obama campaign and told he's not the nominee, and NBC's Andrea Mitchell said on Hardball that she had it on 'very good authority' that Kaine and Bayh have been ruled out.

***UPDATE*** Fox News also reported on air that Obama will not send out his VP text message until sometime after 10am (EST) Saturday. AP confirms that the text message will go out tomorrow morning.

***UPDATE*** AP, citing a confidential source close to Tim Kaine, reports that Kaine will not be Obama's vice presidential nominee:

A Democratic official close to Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine says Barack Obama has told Kaine that he's not his choice to be the Democratic vice presidential nominee.

The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he's not authorized to discuss the development, says the Virginia governor told associates about Obama's decision on Friday. Obama will claim the nomination at the Democratic convention that begins Monday.
