Democrat Kamala Harris finished first in the open primary race for California Attorney General held Tuesday.
Harris, the incumbent, topped a field of seven people to advance to the general election for the position of California Attorney General this November.
California's primary elections marked the first time a top-two primary system was used to choose candidates for a general race. Under this electoral system, the top two vote-getters in the primary advance to the November ballot, regardless of party affiliation.
