Karen Finney has been named MSNBC's weekend host, the network announced on Tuesday.
Finney will host the 4-5:00 p.m. hour on Saturdays and Sundays, serving as the lead in to former primetime host Ed Schultz's new weekend show. She's worked on four presidential campaigns and served in the Clinton White House as deputy press secretary to then First Lady Hillary Clinton. She has been a political analyst and guest host on the network since 2009. She is also a blogger for The Huffington Post.
Finney's show title and debut date will be announced in the coming weeks. The announcement is the latest in a string of programming changes at MSNBC. Last month, the network announced that Schultz would be moving from his weekday primetime hosting gig at 8:00 p.m. to the weekends, hosting a show from 5-7:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Schultz insisted that it was his decision to move to the weekends, but rumors were swirling that the network was looking to replace him.
Chris Hayes, who previously hosted "Up With Chris" on Saturday and Sunday mornings, replaced Schultz and debuted his new primetime show "All In with Chris Hayes" on Monday night. Steve Kornacki, who was a co-host on MSNBC's daytime show "The Cycle," replaced Hayes on Sunday mornings.
MSNBC has been building up its weekend programming blocks for the past couple of years.
