Karen Gillan Joins Lineup For First Official 'Doctor Who' Convention

"Doctor Who" Fans Rejoice: The Doctor, Amy Pond and Rory are getting back together! It has been announced that Karen Gillan will join her co-stars Matt Smith and Arthur Darvill at the first official "Doctor Who" convention of the new "Who" era, which will take place in March.

Gillan, who recently opened up about leaving the series in 2013, said: “I'm really looking forward to the convention and meeting all of the wonderful 'Doctor Who' fans!”

Billed as the "Ultimate Doctor Who Fan Event," the convention will take place in the Time Lord's terrestrial home of Cardiff, Wales on March 24th and 25th, and the guest roster is awesome.

Showrunner Steven Moffat, who wrote many of the new era's best episodes as well as co-creating the PBS smash hit "Sherlock," will be participating in a hosted panel session along with Smith, Gillan and Darvill.

They'll be joined by "Battlestar Galactica" and "Supernatural" alum, sci-fi fan favorite Mark Sheppard, whose brilliant Season 6 guest spots as Canton Everett Delaware III propelled him to the top of many Whovians' wish lists as Gillan's replacement in the TARDIS.

Other "Who" acting vets in attendance will be Ian McNeice ("Rome"), who played Winston Churchill in numerous episodes including "The Wedding of River Song" and "Victory of the Daleks," and Raquel Cassidy who played Cleaves in "The Almost People" and "The Rebel Flesh."

Producer Marcus Wilson and director Toby Haynes will be taking part in an in-depth seminar with the current creative team. Haynes helmed several key Eleventh Doctor episodes including "The Impossible Astronaut" and "Day of the Moon," and he also collaborated with Moffat on the Season 1 Finale of "Sherlock."

There will also be Q&As and behind the scenes access featuring voice of the Daleks, Nick "Exterminate!" Briggs, Dalek operator Barnaby Edwards and production designer Michael Pickwoad. SFX supervisor Danny Hargreaves and Neill Gorton, co-director of Millennium FX, will reveal the tricks of their trade by giving detailed prosthetics masterclasses.

Filming starts on "Doctor Who" Season 7 in Cardiff on February 20th.

HuffPost TV will be covering the convention in full, so check back in March for interviews, photos and more.
