Karl Rove Hits Rand Paul Over Monica Lewinsky Talk

GOP strategist Karl Rove questioned Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) on Tuesday, criticizing his recent decision to revive President Bill Clinton's 1998 scandal with Monica Lewinsky.

In a Tuesday interview on Fox News' "America's Newsroom," Rove questioned Paul for "beating up on" Clinton and Lewinsky, adding that this move may not be a "particularly good thing to strengthen your skills."

“Frankly, Rand Paul spending a lot of time talking about the mistakes of Bill Clinton does not look like a big agenda for the future of the country,” Rove said.

Rove's comments arrive weeks after Paul revived the Clinton-Lewinsky scandal. In a Jan. 26 interview with NBC's "Meet The Press," Paul accused the media of giving Clinton "a pass" on his actions.

"He took advantage of a girl that was 20 years old and an intern in his office," Paul said. "There is no excuse for that, and that is predatory behavior."

One week later, Paul went back to the well in an interview with C-SPAN's "Newsmakers," arguing that Democrats who claim Republicans wage a war on women should think twice before associating with Clinton.

"They can't have it both ways," Paul said. "And so I really think that anybody who wants to take money from Bill Clinton or have a fundraiser has a lot of explaining to do. In fact, I think they should give the money back."
