We found out during last week’s episode that Laurel was inside Annalise’s (Viola Davis) burning house and is now in the emergency room being treated by a bunch of doctors. When Wes’ girlfriend walks in, we find out that Laurel is pregnant.

Souza told HuffPost’s Lauren Moraski that Laurel’s pregnancy was a surprise as the writers have been very secretive with the cast. “I don’t know who the father is,” she added.

Before filming the episode, Souza got a call from show’s producers warning her that the flash-forward scenes would take place in one very long night.

“Who knows if Laurel will make it out alive? There’s so much that happened that night,” she said.

One of the biggest mysteries to be answered this season is which character died in the house fire. “I think that there is another surprise that none of us know. But I think that it’s a great clue as to who is under that sheet,” she said, adding, “Everything is a clue.”

Meanwhile, fans will have to also brace for the moment when the person under the sheet is revealed.

You are going to scream at the TV, possibly break it,” she said. “It is heartbreaking, and that’s how we reacted when we found out. Plot-wise, it’s great … But we’re such a tight family and just to have any of us not be there anymore is so sad,” she concluded.

“How to Get Away with Murder” airs Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
