Kate Middleton Judging Shoe Design Competition

Kate Middleton To Judge Design Competition

It seems like everyone and her mother is a fashion judge these days (seriously, don't get us started on Kelly Osbourne...).

So it was only a matter of time until Kate Middleton, idolized for her sheer tights, solid-colored dresses and impossibly shiny hair, got to do some fashion judging herself.

People StyleWatch writes that while on an upcoming visit to De Montfort University in Leicester, England, the duchess will judge a design competition between six students in the footwear program. While on the visit, Catherine and Prince William will also attend showcases of four students' fashion collections.

It's a big deal, of course, for the winning student to have his or her vision endorsed by the royal. But we're currently a bit nervous for the designers, whose ideas sound a bit... eccentric.

Sam Sawkill tells People StyleWatch, "I wanted to make a cool and sexy shoe for a formal occasion." Summer Spencer's design involved tartan. Becka Hunt "was inspired by 19th-century fashions" and Tabitha Duffield is planning on incorporating pink leather. (See all the sketches here.)

Newsflash, kids: Kate loves her nude L. K. Bennetts and navy Manolo Blahniks with the occasional brown bootie and wellie thrown in for good measure. This is not the time to go all "art school" on us.

Unless Kate's obligated to wear the winning shoe. That we'd love to see.
