'Orange Is The New Black' Star Has A Bizarre Project In The Works

"Orange Is the New Black" actress Kate Mulgrew is lending her voice to a controversial new project.

Mulgrew, who plays prison inmate Red on the Netflix original drama, is branching out with a new documentary called "The Principle" and the first trailer for the film is all kinds of weird.

As narrator, Mulgrew begins the clip by stating, "Everything we think we know about our universe is wrong,” before going on to promote the idea that the sun revolves around the Earth. (Yes, you read that correctly.)

The film, backed by ultra-conservative and anti-Semitic Robert Sungenis, calls on experts in the scientific community to give their professional opinions as to whether Gallileo was right when he determined that the Earth rotates around the sun.

Confused? So are we. But according to a recent poll, one in four Americans were unaware that the sun was the center of our solar system.

Banking on that baffling statistic, Sungenis goes on to explain that NASA is involved in a major cover-up of geocentric evidence that proves his beliefs. (Keep in mind, this is coming from a man who's questioned if the Holocaust actually happened.)

Whether Mulgrew subscribes to Sungenis' wacky theory isn't clear, but, in all honesty, we expected more from the woman who played Captain Kathryn Janeway on "Star Trek."

UPDATE: Mulgrew released a statement on Tues., April 8 explaining her involvement in the project.
