Kathie Lee Gifford joined the co-hosts of "Today" on the plaza to make a big announcement on Thursday morning.

"I can't even believe the words are coming out of my mouth today," she said. "A lot of weird words have come out of my mouth over the years, but we're announcing today that a musical I've been writing for going on 13 years now will be coming to Broadway this fall."

The show, "Scandalous: The Life and Trials of Aimee Semple McPherson," is based on the true story of a evangelist and broadcasting pioneer in the 1920s. Gifford said that McPherson was "the most amazing woman that I've ever read about or studied," and that she was "scandalous beyond belief."

Gifford wrote the musical's book and lyrics in collaboration with composers David Friedman and David Pomeranz. "Scandalous" opens at the Neil Simon Theater in New York on November 15.
