WATCH: Pastor Survives Being Struck By Lightning

A suburban Chicago pastor is recovering after she was struck by lightning over the weekend.

Kathy Nolte, of Oak Park's Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, was marching with members of her congregation in an effort to help fight hunger Sunday afternoon when a thunderstorm suddenly developed, CBS Chicago reports. Though the group ran for cover, it was too late for the 57-year-old pastor, who was apparently hit by a bolt of lightning.

Nolte was taken to Loyola Medical Center after being knocked unconscious, according to CBS. She suffered a concussion and required more than a dozen staples in her skull but is now recovering, and feeling very grateful.

Nolte's experience recalls that of a North Carolina pastor who also survived a lightning strike. Pastor Mike Scott told KABC he felt "very blessed" that he survived the incident. Also in North Carolina, Minister Rick Oliver claims he has also been struck by lightning and lived to tell about it -- though he has had trouble sleeping ever since.

Some 39 people nationwide die from lightning strikes each year, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The federal group says the odds of being struck by lightning during your lifetime are about 1 in 10,000.
