Kathy Payne, Education Expert, Talks About Teachers' Constantly Evolving Roles At Aspen Ideas Festival (VIDEO)

WATCH: Education Expert On Teachers' Constantly Evolving Roles

Kathy Payne says a commitment to improving education means acknowledging that teachers no longer hold the key to all the answers.

The former special education teacher of 12 years and current Director of Education Leadership for State Farm sat down with the Huffington Post at the Aspen Ideas Festival to talk about the evolving role of teachers.

Payne pointed out that students are inundated with so much offline and online knowledge, and teachers must help students become more media literate in order to make sense of it all.

"I don't think we can look at young people today and say their only source of information is going to be teachers standing in front of the classroom," she said. "We have to help them learn how to decipher that information and apply it."

She also said as the world and classrooms becomes more global, helping others and giving back becomes a primary definer of success -- beyond money and power -- which she wants students to realize.

"How we help make sure everyone has an equal opportunity, I think, is much more important."
