Katie Holmes, Tom Cruise Divorce Settlement: Actress Will Keep Jewelry, Other Luxury Goods

How She Could Cash In On The Breakup

Katie Holmes may be getting relatively little in her divorce payout from Tom Cruise -- a reported $4.8 million in child support for Suri over the next 12 years, according to Reuters -- but she'll at least have the jewelry.

On Monday, RadarOnline reported that Holmes will keep the "millions of dollars in jewelry, designer handbags and other gifts" given to her by the 50-year-old actor during the course of their five-year marriage. The 33-year-old actress' sizable jewelry collection includes a pair of diamond earrings valued at $500k, given to her by Cruise as a birthday gift one year.

But is this really surprising? Not really. Gifts given during the course of a marriage are considered non-marital property, so those Hermes bags and other pricey presents technically belong to the actress.

Holmes isn't the only famous figure to keep the jewelry amassed during a marriage. Following her divorce from Prince Charles, Princess Diana was reportedly allowed to keep all the jewelry she obtained during her 15-year marriage. On this side of the pond, Camille Grammer claimed she kept the 10-carat diamond ring that ex Kelsey Grammer gave her for their fifth anniversary, despite the messy divorce that followed. (In fact, the former "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star has admitted that she still wears the stone.)

Should Holmes decide to part ways with the luxury goods, she could always sell them, like the five celebs in the slideshow below did. Click through to see which stars got rid of their jewels post-split, then tell us, what did you do with the gifts your ex gave you after the breakup?
