Katy Perry is going to get into a rock music biopic if it's the last thing she does. The pop superstar is apparently hoping to play Mary Austin, Freddie Mercury's longtime girlfriend, in an upcoming film about the late Queen frontman. Sacha Baron Cohen will star as Mercury.
This isn't the first time Perry has been mentioned in conjunction with a real-life significant other: back in March, Page Six noted that Harvey Weinstein wanted the "Part of Me" singer to play Paul Potts' wife in a possible biopic about the "Britain's Got Talent" sensation.
Of course, whether either of these films happen with Perry remains to be seen. The Austin rumor comes courtesy of the British tabloid The Mirror, which means you should read it while clutching a giant grain of salt.
“Katy would love to be in the film as she is such a huge fan," the Mirror quotes one of Perry's friends as saying. "She would want to play Mary Austin ideally. Katy has a similar look to Mary and would be a brilliant foil to Sacha.”
Cohen has long wanted to make a biopic about Mercury. Deadline.com first reported his involvement in the project back in September of 2010.
Perry -- who famously dressed as Mercury for her 24th birthday -- will next be seen in the concert film "Part of Me."
