Katy Perry's 'Roar' Will Outsell Lady Gaga's 'Applause' In First Week

She's Beating Gaga

Katy Perry is on track to kick Lady Gaga's butt.

The two pop stars released highly publicized singles early this week, after both songs were leaked before their official release dates. Despite claims that Katy Perry's "Roar" sounds suspiciously like another certain other song out there, the California Gurl will likely beat the mother of monsters in their first week of digital download sales.

Billboard reports that "industry forecasters" predict "Roar," which was released on Monday, will reach 450,000 downloads by the end of the tracking week (Sunday, Aug. 18). "Applause," which was released on Tuesday, is on schedule to earn 200,000 to 250,000 downloads.

Lady Gaga's last hit single, "Born This Way," garnered 448,000 downloads after only three days and hit more than 500,000 downloads in its second week. Perry's 2012 song "Part of Me" sold more than 400,000 downloads when it debuted as well.

In a recent interview, Perry's boyfriend, John Mayer, called the song "massive." Turns out, he might be right.

CORRECTION: A previous version of this post cited "Firework" as one of Perry's two latest singles. "Wide Awake" was more recent.
