Holy Smokes, This Is A Real Campaign Ad!

GOP candidate Kay Daly is "hunting RINOs." And that's not all.

Meet Kay Daly. She's running for Congress in North Carolina's 2nd District, and in case you can't guess from her ad, she's a Republican. A real Republican, Daly says, not a RINO (Republican In Name Only) like the incumbent, Rep. Renee Ellmers.

Ellmers, the ad charges, is a "feminist" who "voted to cut veterans benefits and gut the military budget." The ad claims that Ellmers also "voted to let homosexuals pretend they're married," "to fund planned butcherhood" and "to let convicted illegal alien child molesters stay in America."

Well, Daly, a former spokeswoman for the North Carolina GOP, hates that stuff. She's "hunting RINOs," and that's her message -- delivered with a shotgun blast.

As Tim Murphy reports in Mother Jones, an email sent out by Daly's campaign on Thursday contains some additional gems, including a jab at Ellmers for supporting a federal Equal Rights Amendment that "lesbians used to burn their bras over."

Ellmers has come a long way since winning her congressional seat on a wave of tea party momentum in 2010. During that campaign, she drew criticism for an ad that blasted her Democratic opponent for not vocally opposing the construction of an Islamic community center near Ground Zero in New York City. The ad referred to the project as a "victory mosque" and included a clip of Ellmers suggesting that Americans tell "the terrorists" that "there will never be a mosque at Ground Zero."

Now she's the one facing absurd attacks.
