Kayaker Has Quite The Close Encounter With Humpback Whale

We're Guessing This Whale Just Wanted To Say, 'Hey!'

When Cimeron Morrissey woke up to go kayaking, she probably didn't expect she'd get an awesome greeting from a beast of the ocean.

Well, she was wrong.

In the video above, Morrissey and her friends encounter a humpback whale while kayaking in Monterey Bay in California. In moments, the whale moves mere feet away from the group, diving under Morrissey's kayak and lifting its tail out of the water in a sweeping motion.

"I wasn't scared at first, but I was certainly shocked that he chose to swim right up to me," Morrissey writes in the video description. "Maybe this one needs contact lenses."

However, Morrissey knows that being that close to a humpback whale isn't a laughing matter: She also writes that kayaking toward whales is not advisable, nor is it legal.

Although it's certainly important to keep a distance, this interaction does create a stunning visual.
