No matter where you stand on abortion, we can all agree this is a disgusting, divisive comment and deserves to be rebuked.

I'm sure by now you've seen it, but last night Rep. Tiahrt from Kansas took his extremist Republican platform too far. As reported by the Huffington Post, Rep. Todd Tiahrt pondered -- out loud mind you -- whether President Obama's mother would have "taken advantage of [an abortion]."

That's unacceptable.

In fact, Congressman Tiahrt was met with "BOOS!" from his fellow colleagues.

No matter where you stand on abortion, we can all agree this is a disgusting, divisive comment and deserves to be rebuked. President Obama deserves better, the U.S. House of Representatives deserves betters, and the people of Kansas deserve better. It's time that we demand it!

That's why the KDP has launched "Take it back Todd!" An online petition taking on these disgusting comments and DEMANDING Rep. Tiahrt apologize to the President.

We all know why he said it.

Rep. Tiahrt is locked in a close battle for the GOP nomination and he's hoping to drive out his base: radical right wing Republicans who think this kind of comment is okay. But it's not. And if he truly wants to represent all Kansans, then Rep. Tiahrt will apologize to the President right now.

But he won't, unless we demand it!

In conjunction with the online petition, we've also launched an offical "Take it back Todd" facebook group where you can join and register your disapproval with these comments.

For reference, here is the email we just sent to our list from Kenny Johnston, our Executive Director:

Martin --

I wasn't planning on emailing you this morning.

But if you read what I just read, you'd know it's time for action.

Last night, Republican Rep. Todd Tiahrt crossed the line when he asked on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives whether President Obama's mother would have "taken advantage of [an abortion]."

That's a step too far even for a politician known for his radical, conservative platform.

In fact, he was immediately booed by his own colleagues in the House.

Look, abortion is an incredibly emotional and important issue that deserves to be debated. But it deserves to be debated by adults; not ideologues seeking to score cheap political points.

This kind of politics is divisive, inappropriate, and disrespectful to the thousands of Kansans he serves.

Click here to demand an apology and tell Rep. Tiahrt his comments have no place in Congress!

While Todd Tiahrt's colleagues are busy fixing our economy and repairing our broken health care system, he's appealing to his right-wing base as he seeks the Republican nomination for Senate.

If anything, his comments are proof that he is unfit to serve the people of Kansas as a U.S. Senator.

Running to your base is common practice in politics, but this is one stone thrown too far. If Rep. Tiahrt truly seeks to represent all Kansans, not just far right Republicans, then he'll apologize immediately.

Take it back Todd! Click here to demand Rep. Tiahrt apologize for his comment to President Obama!

Let's take a stand against the politics of old.

Join your fellow Kansans and demand our elected officials do better.

Thank you,

Kenny JohnstonExecutive Director - Kansas Democratic Party
