Teacher Asked Witnesses To Deny Alleged Affair With Student: Police

A Texas teacher, charged with having an inappropriate relationship with a student, allegedly asked witnesses to lie to investigators.

Kelly Lynn Thompson, 26, is accused of having sex with a 16-year-old boy from Cypress Lakes High School in Houston. Police said she had sex with the teen in her car outside of her home.

Thompson hasn't worked at the school since officials learned of the allegations three weeks ago, KTRK reports.

An investigation was launched after a tipster reported the alleged affair to Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District officials. The witness claimed Thompson had told her that she and the teen were in love, and that the teacher brought the victim into her home.

After Thompson met with district officials about the alleged scandal, police claim she texted several close friends and asked them to deny that she had a relationship with the student.

One of the people Thompson allegedly sought as a supporting witness was the whistleblower who reported her to the school district, the Cypress Creek Mirror reports.

In addition to the improper relationship count, Thompson is also charged with tampering with witnesses.

The student admitted that he and Thompson had a sexual relationship in a police interview earlier this week, according to KPRC.

One parent in the school community said she's decided not to judge the teacher too quickly.

"I think it could be both ways," the parent, who was not identified, told KTRK. "It could be a student making something up, or it could be, you know, wrong that the teacher is having an inappropriate relationship with a student."

Thompson is due in court May 22.

The Cypress-Fairbanks ISD released the following statement:

Cypress-Fairbanks ISD is very concerned about the serious nature of the allegations against a former Cy Lakes teacher. Inappropriate behavior or misconduct will not be tolerated by any staff member. The safety of our students is always our highest priority, and we will continue to cooperate fully with law enforcement.
