Kelly Rowland Opens Up About Domestic Abuse (VIDEO)

WATCH: Kelly Rowland Opens Up About Domestic Abuse

Kelly Rowland tearfully broke down onstage last month while delivering an emotional performance of "Dirty Laundry," her new single in which she discusses being "in a rage" by a man who put "his hands on me."

Now the Destiny's Child member, 32, has elaborated on her decision to reveal her painful past. In an interview with Marc Lamont Hill on "HuffPost Live" Tuesday, Rowland said that regarding domestic abuse, it "was really important for me to talk about it, or express to young girls that they don't have to be in this kind of situation."

She added: "You can make better decisions. We need to listen to our instincts and our gut. That's what I would probably tell myself then … Now I listen to [my gut]. The older you get, the more you're like, that's what that was saying. As soon as I see a red flag, I'm out."
