Kelly Rowland is a bargain for "The X Factor" compared to Season 2 judge Britney Spears.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rowland will make about $1 million for Season 3 of the Fox singing competition series, compared to Spears, who reportedly made $15 million last year. Rowland and Latina singer Paulina Rubio, who are replacing Spears and L.A. Reid on the judging panel, and are proving to be cost-effective. Rubio will reportedly make $1.5 million for Season 3. The two new judges join returning players Simon Cowell and Demi Lovato. THR reports Lovato, who made $1 million for Season 2, asked for a raise following her first season on the series.
"The X Factor" has been steadily shedding viewers in key areas. The addition of Spears in Season 2 cost a pretty penny and didn't bring in the viewers: The Season 1 finale had 12.6 million viewers and a 3.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic, while Season 2 opened down with 8.7 million viewers and a 3.4 rating. During the Season 2 run, it jumped around from anywhere between 5.7 million and 10.2 million viewers. The 18-49 demo rating dropped down to the 2.0-3.0 range and the season ended with a 3.1 rating and 9.7 million viewers.
"The X Factor" Season 3 will premiere in the fall of 2013.
