Kellyanne Conway, Donald Trump’s campaign manager, seemed to distance herself from her candidate during Wednesday’s presidential debate.

During an answer on immigration, Trump said “we have some bad hombres here and we’re going to get them out.” Conway suggested that the candidate was ad-libbing a line that he had not been advised to say.

Conway did later tweet that she was proud of Trump’s debate performance.

Conway’s tweet came after she publicly said she disagreed with Trump’s claims about widespread voter fraud. She has also joked about keeping Trump on message at previous debates.

Editor’s note: Donald Trump regularly incites political violence and is a serial liar, rampant xenophobe, racist, misogynist and birther who has repeatedly pledged to ban all Muslims — 1.6 billion members of an entire religion — from entering the U.S.
