Much has been made about Rachel Dolezal’s race since it was reported that the now-former Spokane, Washington NAACP leader identified herself as African-American for nearly a decade.
Prior to Dolezal resigning from her position as president on Monday morning, R&B singer Keri Hilson took to her personal Twitter account to offer her perspective on the 37-year-old’s intentions to identify herself as black. Hilson Tweeted; “Let's just all thank #RachelDolezal. Identity, pathological, & parental issues aside, she's doing more than most of us do for ourselves.”
Hilson’s comment immediately prompted some of her 3.98 million followers to respond with disapproval. Hilson responded to the criticism and defended her stance:
Regardless of your opinion on Dolezal, Hilson's comments are certainly a conversation starter.
