Cop Allegedly Caught Stealing On Camera

You'd think he might have seen this coming.

A Florida police officer was allegedly captured on camera stealing a piece of pricey jewelry during an investigation into a jewelry heist, according to multiple sources.

Pembroke Pines police officer Kevin Burgs allegedly lifted a $750 Movado watch from Jared the Galleria of Jewelry while officers were investigating a break-in, reports CBS Miami. The alleged footage of Burgs has not been released to the public.

Earlier, a pair of thieves had been caught on video breaking the store's glass display cases with a pickaxe and grabbing handfuls of booty before escaping through a hole in the roof. The theft occurred at 4:41 a.m. on Wednesday night, according to the Sun Sentinel. Officers responded after the criminals set off an alarm, the Sentinel reports.

The 36-year-old cop was arrested the next day, Sgt. Carlos Bermudez told The Huffington Post. He is charged with grand theft, CBS Miami reports. Bermudez said he'll be prosecuted by the state attorney's office, and the police department will conduct an internal investigation afterward.

Burgs has been suspended with pay, pending the outcome of the investigations, Bermudez said over the phone on Friday.

"Public trust is vital to our partnership with the community," the department said in a statement to NBC Miami. "It is important to note that we held this officer accountable for his actions and charged him appropriately."
