Kevin Eubanks May Leave 'Tonight Show' Band

Jay Leno may be returning to the "Tonight Show," but he may not have his sidekick with him.

"Extra" says it has confirmed a report that bandleader Kevin Eubanks will be leaving the "Tonight Show."

Eubanks "wanted a change," according to a source, "Extra" reports. Los Angeles Radio station K-EARTH 101's Lisa Stanley reported the news first.

OK! magazine says former "Hootie & the Blowfish" frontman Darius Rucker is a rumored replacement.

Eubanks joined Leno on the "Tonight Show" in 1992. "Extra" cites one source saying that Eubanks will appear on Leno's March 1 return to the "Tonight Show."

UPDATE: The Wrap's Brent Lang reports that Eubanks is merely "mulling a departure" from the show but "will be onstage" for the March 1 return.

The AP reports that NBC said "that Eubanks has expressed interest in personal touring and recording. The network says he will be part of the show when it reoccupies late night March 1, but his continued involvement is uncertain."
