If Morpheus was a car valet and he gave you a choice -- red key or blue -- which would you choose?
Well, according to Kia, the answer should be the former.
In anticipation of Super Bowl Sunday, the car company released a rather odd, but entertaining, ad last week for its K900 flagship luxury sedan. The spot features a stony-faced Laurence Fishburne (as Morpheus from the "Matrix" trilogy) showing a baffled couple what luxury in a car looks, feels and sounds like. (Spoiler: It seems to include plush leather seats and Morpheus singing opera in the backseat.)
Quoting car news site Edmunds.com, the Los Angeles Times reports that Kia's commercial, entitled "The Truth," was a big win for the company, "garnering a 7,100 percent increase in Web traffic" for the K900 sedan compared to average user interest over the previous four Sundays.
The commercial, which has racked up more than 3 million views on YouTube so far, "was a critical one for the brand since it introduced many car shoppers to the new Kia flagship model and signaled the brand's entrance into the luxury market," Edmunds.com wrote of the "Matrix"-inspired ad.
Indeed, the ad seems to have gone down well with many netizens, with some taking to Twitter to express their delight:
