'Kick-Ass 2': Sequel From Director Jeff Wadlow Could Get May 2013 Release

A Sequel To 'Kick-Ass'?

The costumed superheroes of 2010 comedy 'Kick-Ass' may soon be suiting up to .. kick ass again. Deadline.com reports that Universal Pictures, which distributed the first movie overseas, is on the verge of greenlighting a sequel written and directed by relative newcomer Jeff Wadlow.

Rumors of a sequel have been swirling for some time, and it was widely believed that the original director, Matthew Vaughn, would not return. (As fate would have it, he's busy with the sequel to his other superhero team movie, 'X-Men First Class.')

John Romita Jr., who illustrates the comic book source material for the movies, even named a potential release date: May 2013.

Rumors aside, it makes sense that 'Kick-Ass' would get a sequel; the original was something of a surprise hit, both financially and artistically. It made $96 million worldwide on a $30 million budget and got a solid 66 on Metacritic.

A profitable, acclaimed movie about a band of superheros that had a sequel announced today ... sound familiar?
