"Janie Bryant" 24 x 32 in. Oil on Linen. I was sitting at a lecture at LACMA about the textiles of Elsa Schiaparellit and Coco chanel and how they influenced the paintings of Matisse . I was surrounded by the most beautifully dressed, highly curated women of the costume council. I am fascinated by textures and colors as a language within painting. I wondered, while sitting there, what it would be like to get the most highly articulate people in the language of fashion -- the stylists, the creative directors, the costume designers-- to style themselves and sit for their portrait. This is Janie Bryant, the costume designer for MadMen. She wore white gloves, and I painted in a cigarette for good measure. http://www.kimberlybrooks.com
