Editor's Note: This article contains advice that worked for one homeowner. Your home decor preferences and floor plan layout may vary.

Since so much time is spent in our kitchens, it's easy for the space to become cluttered and the furniture to get a little worn. But getting the room organized and looking fresh doesn't have to mean costly renovations. These kitchen decor ideas will completely change the room without breaking the bank.

Since clutter tends to accumulate on counters, removing unnecessary items, such as old mail or infrequently used gadgets, is the first step in the right direction. Stylish organizational items will also help the cause. Adding hanging storage, which takes advantage of unused space under cabinets, gets awkward items like stemware and ladles out of the way. A few new, inexpensive furniture pieces can also go a long way in a kitchen "facelift." Like dining chairs. Swapping out those heavy wooden chairs, for example, in favor of acrylic or lucite versions will give the room a modern look. (And what to do with the old ones? Donate them to your favorite secondhand store or charity shop.)
