KKK Holds Event In Downtown Gettysburg After Government Shutdown Cancels Plans For Rally

KKK Can't Be Stopped By Government Shutdown

A Ku Klux Klan rally in Gettysburg was canceled because of the government shutdown, but that didn't stop four members of the group from holding an event in the town.

Officials at Gettysburg National Military Park had granted a special-use permit for a rally to a Maryland-based KKK group in September. Plans by groups that had been granted special-use permits for events at the park were canceled when the government shut down at 12 a.m. ET on Oct. 1, closing all national parks.

According to the Evening Sun of Hanover, several KKK members relocated to downtown Gettysburg. Imperial wizard Richard Preston talked for about 45 minutes while wearing a white hood and robe with purple stripes on the sleeves.

Preston said he plans to rally at Gettysburg National Military Park after the government shutdown ends.

"We will not stop," Preston said. "We will do this every single month."
