Kolmanskop, Deserted African Mining Town, Is Almost Completely Buried In Sand (PHOTOS)

PHOTOS: Creepy Deserted Town Is Unlike Anything You've Seen

In the early 1900s, after diamonds were discovered in the southern Namib desert in Namibia, Africa, German miners flocked to the area, developing the town known as Kolmanskop. In its heyday, it was a thriving community with free housing and services (including sand removal!) for its inhabitants.

But when the value of diamonds dropped and the miners started to leave, it began its rapid decline to become the ghost town it is today. And by 1954, the town was abandoned completely. The desert has since began to drift, completely taking over the German-influenced dwellings. What's left is an eery site, and many say it's haunted.
