The Kraft Heinz Company is voluntarily recalling 36,000 cases of its iconic Kraft Singles.

The company informed customers that "a thin strip of the individual packaging film may remain adhered to the slice after the wrapper has been removed. If the film sticks to the slice and is not removed, it could potentially cause a choking hazard."

The recall applies to certain packages of American and White American cheese slices with "Best When Used By" dates between Dec. 29, 2015, and Jan. 4, 2016. The cheeses in question were shipped to the U.S., Puerto Rico and Grand Cayman.

The Huffington Post reached out to Kraft to learn more about why the packaging film on these particular Singles pose a choking hazard.

Cheese has been a touchy subject lately for Kraft (which, mind you, is now part of the giant The Kraft Heinz Company). In March, Kraft recalled about 6.5 million boxes of Macaroni & Cheese that may have contained small pieces of metal. And the current Singles recall comes nearly a year after Kraft recalled thousands of cases of Singles in August 2014, when a supplier failed to store an ingredient properly.
