Moms with a lust for tanning be warned: the PR gods are not in your favor.
The same day the so-called "Tanning Mom," Patricia Krentcil, was banned from New Jersey tanning salons, WHTM reported that another matriarch with a hankering for UV rays is in trouble in Elizabethtown, Pa.
Krista Mann faces counts of leaving an unattended child in a motor vehicle and driving with a suspended license after she allegedly left her 10-month-old son and her 6-year-old daughter in a running car while she went tanning.
A news release from the Elizabethtown police department said the children were discovered by an officer who was checking parking meters. The officer asked the 6-year-old where her parents were and the girl said her mom was in the salon.
Elizabethtown Police Chief Jack Mentzer told The Huffington Post that this particular incident was especially egregious because the mother left the car running and had no way to see if her children were OK while she was tanning.
"The thing that we hope occurs is that we raise public awareness to the fact that we should not be leaving our children unattended in vehicles, particularly with the keys in the ignition," Mentzer said. "Kids are curious by nature. All it would have taken is the 6-year-old moving the gear-selector in the car and goodness knows what would have happened."
If she's convicted of the suspended license charge, Mann would face a mandatory 60-day jail sentence because her license was taken away after a DUI arrest, according to Mentzer.
