The theatre community was shaken Thursday morning by the devastating death of Tony Award-winning director Mike Nichols, a Broadway visionary who had most recently directed the 2012 revival of "Death of a Salesman." Thespians big and small all hoped to one day work with him, and Kristin Chenoweth was no exception.
In a HuffPost Live interview on Thursday, the Tony Award-winning actress revealed that working with the esteemed director was one of her dreams, and recounted how, just a mere month ago, she told him that herself.
"I just hugged him and said, 'My biggest regret so far is that we've not really worked together,'" she recalled, "and he said, 'Someday."
"I think maybe in heaven we'll be doing a show," she continued. "I don't know what it'll be, but someday, somehow, I will get my dream."
Chenoweth rose to fame with her portrayal of Glinda in the original Broadway production of "Wicked," but she gladly accepted an unconventional offstage role that Mike Nichols once asked of her. She explained:
It was a very famous actor's birthday, and I don't know where he had seen me perform, but they were out shooting in Brooklyn and [Nichols] said, "Would you pop out of a cake, looking kind of hot and sing happy birthday to him?" And I thought ... yes I will, if Mike Nichols is asking me to do it!
