Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving supports protesters who are demonstrating against the Dakota Access pipeline in North Dakota, he said Tuesday in a tweet.

The protests, led by the Standing Rock Sioux tribe, have gone on for months, but have gathered more attention since police attempted to crack down on them in September.

People from across the country, including members of more than 200 other tribes, have joined the fight to block the project. Protesters say the pipeline violates sacred tribal land on Standing Rock Sioux tribe’s reservation and poses a direct threat to clean water the tribe uses. Police have arrested hundreds of demonstrators, and turned water cannons on them this week despite freezing temperatures.

It’s unclear if Irving has any direct connection to the tribe or the protests. University of Wisconsin guard Bronson Koenig, a member of the Ho-Chunk Nation, held a charity basketball camp in North Dakota and joined the protests in September.
