This interview is part of my movement to influence and inspire others through the experiences of ‘Creative Influencers’. Where I will aim to deliver to you the most uplifting and successful stories, from people that I have personally became friends with. For this installment Fida Kablawi has agreed to answer a serious of questions, about her experience at the Explosive LA Fashion Week. Make sure to follow my posts on Dawn Airaghi Huff Post.

Hi Fida let’s begin with how you were selected for the Dynamic LA Fashion Week?

Well as starting as a fashion designer I wanted to gain experience in the back end of the business. As someone who didn't major in fashion, I knew it was going to be a challenge to sell myself. But I finally plucked up the courage at a point in my life where I believed in myself, and my talent, and whole - heartedly knew I had the confidence to finally fulfill my dreams .

Fashion shows are a big way for designers to showcase their collection and gain exposure . I wasn't ready to show case my designs. But I wanted to learn what it was the industry was looking for. I went on line and googled for an internship opportunity and came across LAFW . I applied and stayed persistent with them. I contacted as many people as I could and I emailed them and sold them my skills and talent .

Finally I had the opportunity to meet with one of their directors. I was surprised to hear back a month later that they chose me as an intern for their LAFW Spring Summer 2017 Collection.

Then my journey began - I started to mingle and connect with designers all over the world and local Los Angeles artists. I met top designers such as Noe Bernacelli and artists like Rolland Berry.

What has been your biggest learning curve in th Fashion World?

I have learned and grown so much. But the biggest learning curve for me is that Fashion is a tough industry, as it's not a money making gig and it's not about gaining fame over night. As a designer I've had to invest a lot of my own time and money to really put myself out there, and I'm not even close to where I want to be.

It's a dog eat dog industry and one has to be unique and stand out from the rest of the competition.

Also, trying to find the support, and the right person or celebrity, to really wear your brand and show it off to the world is extremely challenging in today's world.

Who are the most influential people you have met in the industry?

I met a designer Sav Lavin who had spent quite some time in the villages of Indonesia which inspired her entire collection and sustainable fabrics . Also US designer Bishme who dressed many celebrities, is a self made designer . I look up to these types of designers with great admiration and respect.

Finally Fida any profound words for those designers wanting to get their foot in the door?

The best way one can get involved is to either volunteer at fashion weeks in their area. There is a huge demand for volunteers during fashion week and it's a great opportunity for fashion students to get involved and be part of the industry.

Also by coming across internship opportunities and connecting with the right people. Instagram and Facebook is much easier to find those individuals and their emails and to connect with them. Social mingling is the way to go - for sure.
