After the arrival of Lady Gagaâs emotional new single, âPerfect Illusion,â many fans thought the rock ballad alluded to the singerâs recent split from fiancĂŠ Taylor Kinney.
Lyrics like âIt wasnât love / it wasnât love / it was a perfect illusionâ only strengthened our suspicions that Gaga was singing her heart out about the demise of her five-year relationship.Â
But during an interview with Andy Cohen on Monday, Gaga denied pulling a TSwift and penning a song about her famous ex. Â

âI love Taylor so, so much and this song is not a, you know, hit out against Taylor. Heâs my best friend,â Gaga said on Cohenâs SiriusXM radio show. âThis song is just about, Iâm sure not only feelings that Iâve had but that heâs had, that my friends have had, that, you know, my sister has in her relationship.â
Gaga added, âItâs a record about all of us, you know? And I would never use my song or want to use the public to hurt anyone that I love so much.âÂ
Kinney and the singer began dating in 2011 after the actor appeared in Gagaâs video for âYou & I.â The two got engaged on Valentineâs Day in 2015, but reportedly never set a wedding date. In July, Gaga announced via Instagram that she and Kinney were separating, though they both still âreally love each other.â
Cohen asked Gaga whether she felt like she and Kinney had âbeautifully consciously uncoupled,â much like Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin did.Â
âI donât know if I would even say it that way,â the singer said. âI donât think weâve, like, un-anything. Weâre, you know, just two people figuring it out.âÂ
