Lady Gaga To Receive Trevor Hero Award For LGBT Community Work

Lady Gaga To Receive LGBT 'Hero' Honor

Lady Gaga's all-inclusive songs, videos and performances have made her a lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) icon for some time -- and her relationship with that community is about to get even stronger.

As MTV is reporting, the pop diva will be honored Dec. 4 with the Trevor Project's Trevor Hero Award for her LGBT advocacy work. Also being recognized is Google Inc., which will receive the Trevor 2020 Award.

"Our young people are at the center of a health crisis, and vocal leaders like Lady Gaga and technology leaders like Google Inc. have stepped up to help change our culture," David McFarland, interim executive director and CEO of the Trevor Project, said in a statement. "Our honorees are working with the Trevor Project to make a better today and a brighter tomorrow for youth. We are proud to honor Lady Gaga with the Trevor Hero Award and Google Inc. with the Trevor 2020 award for their work to help young people express their true selves with pride."

Lady Gaga recently announced the launch of the Born This Way Foundation with her mother, Cynthia Germanotta, which aims to promote "youth empowerment and equality by addressing issues like self-confidence, well-being, anti-bullying, mentoring and career development and will utilize digital mobilization as one of the means to create positive change," as reported by MTV News.

As the statement notes, the Trevor Project is the leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning young people under 24. The Dec. 4 event will also include appearances by Chris Colfer, Zachary Quinto, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka, along with other A-list stars.

CORRECTION: A previous version of this post said that Lady Gaga recently launched the Born This Way Foundation. The organization is set to launch in 2012.
