It all started with an epic lip dub of Katy Perry's "Roar" and now one Colorado high school is encouraging all high schools across the nation to donate to charity and change the world $1,000 at a time.
Earlier this month, Katy Perry selected Lakewood High School of Lakewood, Colo., as the winners of her "Roar" lip dub contest (watch their winning video above), meaning the school would get a special concert from Perry herself. Wanting to make the most of their special event, the students originally planned to open it to the public and raise money for the Colorado flood relief effort, but due to contest rules they weren't allowed to do that.
So, they decided to go even bigger and challenge every high school in America to raise $1,000 to give to a charity of their choice. Calling it the "One World, One Roar" campaign, school officials say that if every high school in America raised the money, about $39 million dollars would end up going to charities.
"This generation is paying it forward," school Principal Ron Castagna said to The Denver Post.
The students are asking that all high schools that participate in the campaign and raise money for charity report their success on the Lakewood High School Compliments page on Facebook.
Around 2,000 Lakewood High School Tigers joined forces when they performed an incredible, one-shot take lip dub of "Roar" that won Perry's contest. While giving a tour of their school, they managed to squeeze in everyone from the lacrosse team to the bridge club (balloons and confetti included).
The special concert for Lakewood High will be broadcast live on Good Morning America on October 25, Katy Perry's birthday.
