Lance Bass Talks Jason Collins' Coming Out, One Direction Rumors On 'The Rubin Report'

'90s Pop Star On One Direction Members: 'Statistically Speaking, One Probably Is' Gay

N'Sync star Lance Bass stopped by "The Rubin Report" to chat about his advice to Jason Collins, the NBA veteran who came out as gay earlier this week.

Bass, who reportedly advised Collins after the Sports Illustrated article hit the web, recalled his own experience coming out with comedian Dave Rubin and "Young Turks" founder Cenk Uygur: "I felt like I had four of my best friends' careers in my hands ... I felt that if anyone found out that it would be the end of the group, everyone would completely make fun of us, and we would no longer make music anymore. Which might have happened."

The pop star, who now hosts the "Dirty Pop With Lance Bass" radio show, also speculated on the private lives of the five members of One Direction, the current boy band sensation.

"Statistically speaking, one probably is [gay]," Bass noted. "The market is 100 percent young women and they fantasize about these [One Direction] guys. Then you have the record labels and everyone kind of grooming you to make sure that you don't even mention that you have a girlfriend."

He then noted, "So screw the fact that you're going to come out as being gay -- it ruins their whole business plan."

Last year, One Direction member Louis Tomlinson sounded off on media speculation over his apparent "bromance" with bandmate Harry Styles. "We want to joke around, but there seems to be a different rumor every time we do anything," he said at the time. "I act the same way with Harry as I do [with] any of the other boys and my childhood friend Stan."
