It's nearing twenty days of Occupy Wall Street (OWS), the protest movement that stands against corporate greed and the power that money has on government. Taking inspiration from the events of the Arab Spring, the OWS protests have spread throughout the U.S. The following is a timeline of events since the genesis of the idea in July, 2011.
This could be the beginning of a whole new social dynamic in America, a step beyond the Tea Party movement, where, instead of being caught helpless by the current power structure, we the people start getting what we want whether it be the dismantling of half the 1,000 military bases America has around the world to the reinstatement of the Glass-Steagall Act or a three strikes and you're out law for corporate criminals. Beginning from one simple demand - a presidential commission to separate money from politics - we start setting the agenda for a new America.Post a comment and help each other zero in on what our one demand will be. And then let's screw up our courage, pack our tents and head to Wall Street with a vengeance September 17.
* August 16, 2011: The Spanish Indignados pledge their allegiance to the September 17 protest. They will occupy the Madrid Stock Exchange.
* August 23, 2011: The hacker group, Anonymous, pledges to be on Wall Street on September 17. They produce a video advocating for peaceful demonstrations and one demand: freedom.
*September 9, 2011: People planning on protesting on September 17 begin submitting photos to the "We Are The 99 Percent" Tumblr page.
* September 17, 2011: The Occupy Wall Street protest begins in Bowling Green Park attracting thousands of people. Check out the video released by Anonymous.
* September 24, 2011: 80 arrests are made and a video surfaces of police officer Anthony Bologna using mace on female protesters.
* September 25, 2011: Anonymous threatens the NYPD because of police brutality.
* September 26, 2011: Filmmaker Michael Moore joined protesters at Zuccotti Park in lower Manhattan.
* September 27, 2011: Susan Sarandon talks to protesters on Wall Street and Dr. Cornel West shows up to speak and show support.
* September 29, 2011: The first official document was approved unanimously by members of Occupy Wall Street: The Declaration of the Occupation of New York City. Three documents will be released in total: 1) A declaration of demands. 2) Principles of Solidarity 3) Documentation on how to form your own Direct Democracy Occupation Group. In addition, demands for Congress were released.
*October 1, 2011: More than 700 protesters were arrested as they walked across the Brooklyn Bridge and stopped traffic.

* October 1, 2011: Occupy LA and Occupy DC begin. General Assembly meetings take place in both cities.
* October 1, 2011: Two independent journalists published the first edition of a newspaper called, "The Occupied Wall Street Journal." The publication project was fully funded on Kickstarter.
* October 3, 2011: The New York Times publishes the names of many more cities with OWS protests planned, and links to the OccupyTogether.com website.
