NBC is bringing back "Last Comic Standing." The reality competition series will return next summer for an eighth season with Wanda Sykes serving as executive producer according to The Hollywood Reporter.

NBC has had a rocky past with the stand-up competition series since it first aired in 2003. The Peacock Network canceled the series in 2004, brought it back in 2006, axed it again in 2008, and revived it once more in 2010. Past contestants have included
Amy Schumer, Ralphie May and Kathleen Madigan.

Now the reality series will return to NBC's summer programming block next year where it aired every season except for one during its original run.

Sykes' new role is a product of her development deal with Universal TV and her production company, Push It Productions. Sykes can also currently be seen in Amazon's new original series "Alpha House," and she will return to OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network in January with new episodes of her variety series "Wanda Sykes Presents Herlarious."

NBC has not announced a host nor specific premiere date for the new season of "Last Comic Standing."
