Note: In a new book, Professor Colin Humphrey of Cambridge University has concluded that the Last Supper took place on a Wednesday, not a Thursday as John erroneously reported.
Matthew: "Hi John, it's Matt."
John: "Matt, man. What's going down?
Matthew: James the Elder, Judas, Jesus and I want know what to bring tomorrow."
Matthew: "Yeah, to dinner."
John: "But dinner's tonight, Mattman."
Matthew: "No, Johnny, I've got it on my calendar for tomorrow night."
John: "This is unbelievable. I've rented the hall on Mt. Zion, I bought the gefilte fish, the lamb shank-- which by the way is not easy to get -- I've made the chopped liver and I've hidden the matzoh."
Matthew: "Look, John. I sent a messenger over to remind the guys that I'm going to pick them up around VII:XXX tomorrow night and the guy rode back on his ass and said they'd be ready."
John: "That doesn't change the fact that I'm ready to go here. I've even brought in an ox to lick the dishes after dinner."
Matthew: "I don't know how this happened, John, but I've got this written down on my calendar for Wednesday, April I, 33AD."
John: "Oh, I get it, this is some kind of April Fools joke. You guys are something else. So I'll see you around VIII?"
Matthew: "No, seriously, John, everybody but you thinks it's tomorrow."
John: "Matt. You know I hath no greater love for anyone on this planet, but this is the gospel truth -- the dinner is tonight. I've even brought in an Italian guy to make a picture."
Matthew: "Look, John, if it were up to me I'd cancel the card game and I know that at least Judas wouldn't have any problem with that, but Jesus has an incredibly full schedule for the rest of the week and I just can't see him reworking it."
John: "Well tell him he's looking at losing a very close friend if he doesn't show up.
Matthew: "I'll do it, John, but if I were you I really wouldn't cross him on this."
