'Late Show With David Letterman': John McCain Gives Thumbs Down To Letterman's Joke (VIDEO)

John McCain Gives Thumbs Down To Letterman's Joke About GOP Candidates

Senator John McCain and David Letterman had a famously tetchy relationship during the 2008 Presidential election, but last night on "The Late Show With David Letterman" (Weeknights, 11:35 p.m. EST on CBS) things seemed more cordial between the two men.

A cagey McCain wouldn't be drawn into criticizing the remaining candidates in the 2012 GOP presidential race, but Letterman wasn't pulling any punches.

McCain grimaced when Letterman said, "It seems like everyone's gone wacky in the Republican party." Then, the host wondered, "Is it the influence of the Tea Party? Or am I over-examining this?"

"You're over-examing this," quipped McCain, "as usual."

Letterman went on to describe the current crop of GOP candidates as "like day-old produce," to which McCain gave a thumbs down. Letterman responded by joking that now he's got the action on tape, he'll make good use of it.

"The Late Show With David Letterman" airs Weeknights, 11:35 p.m. EST on CBS.
