It’s a pretty good time to be a Hispanic star in Hollywood.
Last week’s ALMA Awards honored artists across the entertainment industry for their work promoting “fair, accurate, and representative portrayals of Latinos.”
Christina Aguilera won big with the special achievement award “The Voice of a Generation” and the title as the “Favorite TV Reality Act” for her work on NBC’s “The Voice.” Young Latino artists like “Glee’s” Naya Rivera and “Modern Family’s” Rico Rodriguez were also recognized for their characters.
Sunday night’s Emmys, while lacking individual wins for Latinos, were dominated by Showtime’s thriller series “Homeland,” which stars Brazilian-born Morena Baccarin as a series regular, and ABC’s “Modern Family,” in which Rodriguez plays “Manny” and Sofia Vergara his Colombian mother “Gloria.”
But the awards don’t stop there. This Wednesday, the 13th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards will announce the nominees for this year’s show, and with that kick off a six-week-long series of cultural events -- including Acoustic Sessions and Street Parties across the nation -- that lead up to the November 15 live broadcast from Las Vegas’ Mandalay Bay Events Center.
