Laura Ingraham Celebrates Eric Cantor's Defeat, Blames Immigration Reform

Laura Ingraham Celebrates Eric Cantor's Defeat

Laura Ingraham, the radio host who has been dubbed the "only national conservative figure" to back David Brat, the man who defeated House Majority Leader Eric Cantor on Tuesday night, celebrated what she called Cantor's "extremely significant loss" in a conversation with Fox News colleague Megyn Kelly.

Ingraham campaigned vigorously for Brat even when almost the entire political universe was writing him off. Speaking on Tuesday night, she told Kelly that Cantor's defeat was a victory for opponents of immigration reform such as herself.

"This race in the end goes down as one of the most significant repudiations of establishment immigration reform that I’ve seen in my 20 years of doing politics," she said, adding, "This is a massive wake-up call to the Republican Party if they choose to actually wake up at this point."

Kelly portrayed Ingraham, along with other conservative pundits, as "instrumental" in Cantor's defeat.

While there has been some debate over the role immigration reform played in Brat's victory, a consensus is emerging that any attempts to get a bill through the House are dead for now.
