Laura Linney On 'The Big C' Ending

"The Big C," starring Laura Linney, is getting a final four-hour wrap-up, much to the delight of the the Emmy-winning star.

While speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Linney said if "The Big C" had ended after Season 3, she doesn't think it would have been satisfying.

“I think it would have been sort of womp womp womp,” Linney told THR. "It could have ended there, and I think it was sort of intentionally designed, that if it had to end there it would have ended there, but I don't find it terribly satisfying.”

Showtime will wrap up the cancer dramedy with a four-part series finale event. Since 2010, Linney has played Cathy Jamison, a teacher diagnosed with melanoma. Each season of the show has tracked the character as she goes through different stages of dealing with the disease.

Season 3 ended with Cathy leaving her family behind and sailing into the sunset. For the four-part finale,The Big C: Hereafter," Linney, Oliver Platt, John Benjamin Hickey, Gabriel Basso and Gabourey Sidibe will return with Kathy Najimy and Isaac Mizrahi joining the cast.

“It has been a true joy watching someone as gifted as Laura Linney take Cathy Jamison on her journey these past three seasons,” David Nevins, president of Showtime Entertainment, said in a statement. “We wanted to take particular care to honor the fans of the show with a compelling and memorable conclusion. We thank Laura, Jenny Bicks, Darlene Hunt, and 'The Big C’s' gifted ensemble of actors, producers and crew for the remarkable work they have created.”
