Laurie Kilmartin, Baron Vaughan Among 'The Cinder Block Comedy Festival' Headline Acts

This weekend kicks off the 2016 Brooklyn Comedy Festival. Not sure how you'll smile again once it's over? The answer to maintaining happiness lies in The Cinder Block Comedy Festival (September 14-18, Brooklyn). Baron Vaughan, Laurie Kilmartin, Jon Laster, and Marga Gomez are among names set to appear at the fall comedy festival. According to the Exclusive Lineup Announcement in The Village Voice, "The Festival grabbed headlines when it announced that their submission process would have 'wage gap' pricing: female, gender nonconforming, queer, and trans performers and comics of color would pay 77% of the fee required for applications from straight white male comics."

WHAT: A four-day comedy festival with 150+ performers in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, showcasing a diverse set of talent in the comedy community, from sketch to stand-up to improv to musical comedy.

Baron Vaughn

BARON VAUGHN is a series regular on Netflix's Grace and Frankie in the role of "Bud." The first and second seasons are streaming on Netflix, and the third season is currently in production. He was on USA Network's Fairly Legal (2010-2012), and has appeared in the films Black Dynamite, Cloverfield, and The Other Guys (Deleted Scenes). As a comedian, Baron's performed stand-up on Conan (twice), Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, and Comedy Central's "The Half Hour". He's performed in the HBO U.S. Comedy Arts Festival (Aspen), The Just for Laughs Comedy Festival (Montreal), The South Beach Comedy Festival (Miami), Moontower Comedy Festival (Austin), SXSW Festival (Austin) San Francisco Sketchfest, Bridgetown Comedy Festival (Portland), Vancouver Comedy Festival, All Points West Music Festival (New Jersey), FYF Music Festival (Los Angeles), Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival (TN), and Bumbershoot Music and Arts Festival (Seattle). Baron has a new comedy recording, Blaxistential Crisis, soon to be released by AST Records.

Laurie Kilmartin

Laurie Kilmartin spent her first 10 years as a standup in San Francisco, the second 10 in New York City and now lives in LA. She currently writes for CONAN on TBS. When home in LA, Laurie does standup about 3-4 times a week. She uses her 10 hiatus weeks each year to go back on the road. Recent headlining dates include Acme Comedy Club in Minneapolis, The Punchline in San Francisco, Rooster T Feathers in Sunnyvale, The Laughing Skull in Atlanta, Cap City Comedy Club in Austin, The Comedy Underground in Seattle, and pretty much every gig in Arizona.

Jon Laster

Jon Laster is a veteran New York City based comedian originally from Denver Colorado. He graduated with a BA from Colorado State University. Shortly after, Jon moved to New York City to realize his dream of being a comedian. Jon quickly moved up the comedy hierarchy and established himself as one of the funniest comedians and most sought after host. After just six years, Jon has hosted the first and second Underground Comedy Festival held in New York City, completed a one year tour with the NACA showcase, and was the 2013 winner of NBC's nationwide comedian search 'Stand Up NBC!' Following year was followed up by being one of four in the country to be selected for HBO's Comedy Wings Showcase!! Jon is truly and quickly a comedy star on the rise.

Marga Gomez

MARGA GOMEZ has appeared on LOGO's "One Night Stand Up," Showtime's "Latino Laugh Festival," Comedy Central's "Out There" and HBO's "Comic Relief" at the invitation of Robin Williams who called her "Amazing... a lesbian Lenny Bruce." She has been a guest on leading comedy podcasts Marc Maron's WTF and the "Keith and The Girl Show." Marga has been described as "deliciously cheeky" by the New York Times and "salaciously surreal" by the San Francisco Chronicle. She has been featured at numerous comedy festivals including SF Sketchfest, Montreal's Just For Laughs, and The Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Marga is also the writer/performer of eleven solo plays which have been presented Off-Broadway and internationally.

On September 14th-18th in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, the first-ever Cinder Block Comedy Festival will showcase a diverse set of talent in the comedy community, from sketch to stand-up to improv to musical comedy, with more than 150 performers. The festival drew national attention by offering its early-bird registration special price to all prospective performers who are not straight white men.
