EXCLUSIVE: Nia Vardalos Takes On Gay Rights On 'SVU'

"Law and Order: SVU" is bringing in Nia Vardalos for an episode tackling gay marriage laws in New York State.

In the exclusive preview clip of "Criminal Hated" below, Detectives Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Amaro (Danny Pino) are doing an interrogation when Vardalos' Counselor Minonna Efron interrupts. It seems her client and the young man under interrogation aren't just boyfriends ... they're husbands.

"Law and Order: SVU" airs on Wednesday, Jan. 30 at 9 p.m. EST on NBC.

ADA BARBA TRIES A MURDER CASE AGAINST AN UNPREDICTABLE DEFENSE ATTORNEY (GUEST STAR NIA VARDALOS) IN A SHOWDOWN THAT STRETCHES THE BOUNDARIES OF THE LAW.
