Leaping Shark Just Wants In On The Fun

What do you do when you're feeling extra fly, but your friend is getting all the attention?

What do you do when you're feeling extra fly, but your friend is getting all the attention?

You pull a "Kanye at the VMAs" and steal the spotlight, of course.

That's what went down, as seen in the video above, when a tour boat with White Shark Africa filmed a great white shark devouring a huge slab of meat near Seal Island, South Africa.

Not to be outdone, his flashy friend comes leaping up out of nowhere, pausing mid-air as if to say, "Imma let you finish," and crashes back into the water.

Thanks to "Planet Earth's" dramatic slo-mo footage of an adult great white launching itself upward and snatching up a seal, most of us already knew that the formidable sharks can breach pretty powerfully when hunting.

But Chris Lowe, a professor and director of the Shark Lab at California State University, Long Beach, says that experts don't know why great whites breach.

It's "kind of a mystery," Lowe told The Huffington Post. "The young [great white sharks] breach a lot. People don't see the adults do it so much except when they're chasing food."

Dan Abbott, a spokesman for the dive boat, told ABC News that the shark in the video appeared to launch for no reason, since there wasn't another shark chasing it from below and there wasn't any bait in the water for it to go after.

Whatever the reason for the attention-grabbing leap, we're just happy the little guy got his 15 seconds of fame.

You do you, big white:
